Nyctanthes arbor-tristis, commonly known as Parijat, Night Jasmine, or Sad Tree, is a small deciduous tree famed for its fragrant white flowers that bloom at night. Native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, this mystical tree holds cultural and religious significance and is often associated with Lord Krishna in Hindu mythology.
The Parijat tree grows to about 10–15 feet tall and has glossy, dark green leaves that complement its striking clusters of fragrant white flowers with orange centers. The flowers open in the evening and fall by dawn, covering the ground in a carpet of blossoms. This makes it not only a beautiful tree but also an aesthetic addition to gardens, temples, and residential spaces.
