Mimusops elengi, also called Spanish Cherry, Bakul, or Bullet Wood Tree, is a medium-sized evergreen tree known for its highly fragrant white flowers, dense canopy, and multipurpose uses in gardens, religious spaces, and traditional medicine. Native to South and Southeast Asia, it is a favorite ornamental tree thanks to its compact form, lush foliage, and sweet-scented blossoms.
Growing up to 30–40 feet tall, Mimusops elengi produces star-shaped white flowers that bloom primarily at night, releasing a strong, pleasant aroma. The tree also bears small, edible, orange-colored fruits, while its hard, durable wood is used for furniture and tool handles. The bark, flowers, and seeds have been widely used in Ayurveda for their astringent, anti-inflammatory, and oral health benefits.
