Kathal Artocarpus heterophyllus

Kathal (Artocarpus heterophyllus), or Jackfruit, is a tropical fruit tree native to South and Southeast Asia. It is one of the largest fruit-bearing trees, capable of producing fruits weighing up to 40 kilograms. The tree grows up to 20 meters tall and features glossy, green leaves and small, greenish-yellow flowers. The fruits have a spiky outer shell and a sweet, aromatic pulp inside, which is rich in carbohydrates, dietary fiber, and essential vitamins. Jackfruit thrives in warm climates and well-draining soil, requiring full sun and regular watering during dry spells. It is low-maintenance and can start bearing fruit within 3–5 years of planting. The tree is also valued for its timber and latex, making it a multipurpose addition to gardens and farms.
