Ficus-Benghalensis

Ficus benghalensis, famously known as the Banyan Tree, is one of the most iconic and majestic trees in the Indian subcontinent. Revered for its massive canopy, aerial prop roots, and sacred cultural significance, it is widely planted in temple complexes, heritage sites, public parks, and large landscapes. Growing up to 20–30 meters tall and spreading across wide areas through its aerial roots, the Banyan Tree forms a dense, shady canopy that provides shelter for people, birds, and animals alike. Its broad leaves, thick trunk, and ability to thrive in tough conditions make it a natural air purifier and heat regulator in urban and rural spaces.
